First time I've had a proper look at him and have to say what a good signing he could turn out to be.

Good first touch, not afraid to shoot, won everything in the air, strong and good awareness when setting up his team mates.

First impressions say we've got a bit of a beast here.

Podolski and Cazorla will grab the headlines but Giroud stood out the most with regards to what we have missed in this side.

What did you lot think of him?

He looked okay but I`ll reserve judgement until I see him play in the Premiership.Remember Chamakh looked good when he first arrived

Chamakh always looked like he would put a shift in but he was always limited, don't think I ever remember him shooting on sight that's for sure.

Play him against Stoke and lets see what he is really made off.

First signs were positive. However I think we all need to see more than 45 minutes to pass any form of judgement.

Win our first three games with both Giroud and Poldolski not scoring, then they both open their account against Southampton ,like the two greatest legends of recent time, and hopefully they can follow in the footsteps of TH14 and DB 10.

Think he looked good. Got annoyed that Horn (their keeper) had a blinder specifically against him it seemed. I couldn't help thinking, he NEEDS to score before he ends up like Shimakh lol. Still reserving judgement though. Could be a goodun :popcorn

Just saw the highlights as i missed the first half yesterday, i know it doesnt show you every bit of a play but what i saw of him on there he looked very good. Should have had scored 2 if not 3, unfortunately for us the Cologne keeper was in good form. Strong, not afraid to shoot, that head down in the box to Cazorla was brilliant. Be interesting to see him in the Prem!

Made a good first impression and Chamkah could learn a thing from him about work rate and drifting about to find the ball. Hopefully he'll keep putting in that effort and should get more chances as the midfielders get used to how he likes the ball played.

I've been meaning to start his thread for a while now, just didn't get round to it !

I have to agree with every word of your Post. I've based my opinion only on what I've seen of him whilst playing for us, but the signs of a very good lone striker are all there. All the points you make are very true but I'd also like to say that his intelligent movement and workrate off the ball is exceptional - the type that creates chances for others, although I think he'll get a few goals this season - I'll say his tally will be 20+ ( just for fun o'course ;))

I agree about his touch and technique etc. But he's alarming slow, doesn't have a turn of pace whatsoever. There was 2 occasions at Liverpool where he was in but had nothing to even create a striking opportunity.
Maybe he's carrying a bit of weight, I don't know. But that's my main concern about him.

There was one particular opportunity I recall where he was shockingly slow.
We've been used to livewires up front in recent years. And his lumbering qualities don't inspire confidence.

I think most top strikers have good acceleration. This lad doesn't seem to.

So are we going to be lumping it up to the big man up front?
then we need to play 2 strikers up front.

If we had a decent striker up front, we'd only need one.

From SSN:

Olivier Giroud admits he endured a disappointing night in a France shirt as he was substituted and booed off at home to Belarus on Tuesday.
The Arsenal striker was handed a start by Didier Deschamps for the World Cup qualifier in Paris but was jeered off after an hour with his side a goal up.
Les Bleus went on to win the match 3-1 but Giroud was left to bemoan a dream opportunity that ended on a sour note.

I think he will come good eventually. Let's face it, its one hell of a step up in terms of league quality. Santi and pod have more or less hit the ground running and they are from similar strength leagues. Giroud is just trying to hard and panicking. He's got the movement and technique, he just needs to take a deep breath before shooting. Kos was a slow starter and look how well he improved last season. As long as we all (team included) get behind him then I don't think it will take too long for him to get going.
