Arsenal v Blackpool official next match thread

League cup time and we face a possible horror show on hallowe'en night if we fail to put these away.
Whatever team we put out should be more than enough to complete the job and progress to the next round.
And the added bonus is that Tenbob will return to the Emirates for the first time in over two years.
Not to actuall see the game but the mother-in-law lives near by :D .
Seriously tickets at a great expense have been purchased and I expect a first class experiance and total customer satisfaction or Tripadvisors review will be scathing .

Ah! Blackpool in my younger days one of the best sides in the old 1st Division with great players like Matthews, Mortenson, Perry and the Captain Carey. Stanley Matthews, in my opinion of course, was probably the greatest English player of all time.

Only know what i have read and the odd film reels but just that his name still holds well after all these years proves what a famous player Stanley Matthews was.

Football has changed a lot since ,but Matthews had a trick which fullbacks were unable to stop . The W/M formation allowed wingers to get one on one and Matthews had the ability to jink either way and he had pace too over a few yards which made it hard for the back to turn and catch him.In this day he would need sprinting speed over a longer distance , but like the sadly missed George Armstong he could cross a ball and pick players out rather than hit and hope. However he was probably the most famous English player worldwide on a par with Puskas and Di Stefano.

Arsenal v Blackpool official next match thread

I lived in Battersea at one time and the nearest Club was Chelsea so I would sometimes go to watch them if Arsenal were away. One time Blackpool were the visitors with Stan on the Right Wing. He had two players marking him the whole game and one time he had the ball and both Chelsea players tackled him at the same time seconds later both Chelsea boys were sitting on their arses facing each other on the pitch with their legs entwined while Stan made off towards the Chelsea goal.

Have to say though RR although Matthews had the name , I thought Finney was better.

Tom Finney was a fantastic player and it`s hard to say who was the better but I`m in the Mathews camp. Did you know that Finney was a plumber by trade and on a Saturday when Preston were a Home he would work as a plumber in the morning then get a bus to the ground and play football in the afternoon.
There is a story, which I`m sure is not true, that England were playing a match and had Mathews on the right wing, Finney on the left wing and the great Tommy Lawton at centre forward. Stan crossed the ball and Tommy headed into the net, he shouted thanks Stan. A few minutes later Tom Finney crossed the ball and Tommy headed the ball into the goal but didn`t say anything. This happened a couple more times and each time Lawton acknowledged Matthews but ignored Finney. At half-time Finney asked Lawton why he always thanked Mathews but never thanked him. Tommy Lawton replied "well Stan always made sure the lace was facing away from me when I headed it"

Well that weren't great and now Guendouzi won't be available for Saturday. I'd forgotten about Jenkinson!

Poor performance with the only plus is we won.
Would of thought Mickey (he's not really all that) or Ramsey would have imposed themselves on the game.
Ramsey now going through the motions and the way we played lacked any fizz and was actually boring.
Yids in the next round.
